EPW - James Chater & Son, London, verge fusee, 46mm, 18K gold OF cases bearing London hallmarks, the outer with date mark for 1814 and casemaker's incuse "L C" marking, the inner with markings somewhat indistinct due to wear but possibly a casemaker's incuse "I W" marking and a 1781 date marking, beautifully engine turned and stippled gold dial, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and engraved foliate scrolled balance cock having an urn at neck, signed gilt locking dust-cap, s#5483. Gross weight of assembled watch 64.6 dwt (100.5 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with few fine scratches; nearly flawless dial; fine hands, minute with mild bend; outer case shows hardly any wear, two shallow dings to rear, small ding to upper right of bezel and mild dent to lower right of bezel, crisp engine turning detail, button latch good, small bit of play at hinge; inner case shows light wear, scattered dings and dents to rear and sides, evident repair at pendant junction with some gold solder excess visible internally; bow pivots freely with a bit of play to pendant; good domed glass bull's-eye crystal.
